Meet The World’s Oldest Married Couple

Divorce rate has been on the increase globally due to many factors, but  many couples have been able to stay faithful to their marital vows in spite of the challenges the marriage institution is facing worldwide . One of these great couples are  Karam and Kartari Chand, aged 110 and 103 respectively, who just celebrated  their 90th wedding anniversary at home in Bradford (Picture: Guzelian Ltd)

According to the Metro News,the world’s oldest married couple, just celebrated their 90th wedding anniversary   with a combined age of 213 years ,Karam Chand, 110, and his wife Kartari Chand, 103, from Bradford, West Yorkshire   got married on   December 11, 1925, the couple married in a Sikh ceremony in India when the country was still under British rule, Coincidentally, they were born in the month of November .

Kartari and Karim moved to Bradford in 1965 and currently have eight children, 27 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. They live with their youngest son Paul, his wife and two of their four children.

Paul said: ‘To be aged 110 and to be so healthy is a huge milestone for anyone…We are still trying to come up with names for what you would call a 90th anniversary, as it is such an achievement.’ He added: ‘I am also proud of the my whole for family for helping us keep my parents in such good health. It is a blessing to have them still around and to have them still telling me what to do.’

Karam and Katari Chand, from Bradford, West Yorkshire, have spent almost their entire lives together as their love for each grew stronger every year. Mr and Mrs Chand were married in India at a Sikh ceremony on December 11 in 1925, when the country was under British rule. They took the title of oldest married couple when they celebrated their 88th wedding anniversary and were looking to reach 90-year mark ever since.

Karam, who turned 110 on November 10, and Kartari, who turned 103 on November 1, opened a new Westfield shopping Centre, The Broadway, in honor of their achievement last month. The two local celebrities also led their community in the annual Girlington Parade.
