3,000 Women Benefit From Aisha Buhari’s Free Health Care Initiative in Oyo

About  3,000 women across 33 Local Governments areas in Oyo State has harnessed from the Wife of the president Aisha Buhari, free healthcare initiative.

Free Healthcare program, which was held on Thursday at the Loyola College Ibadan Oyo State, Western  Nigeria  under the aegis of the Future Assured Initiative.

Participants were screened for diabetes, hypertension, cervical and breast cancers. Those with minor health issues were treated on the spot and given drugs, while those with serious ailments were referred to tertiary health institutions for comprehensive examination, our correspondent learnt .

The Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who alongside his wife, Florence Ajimobi , were the chief host and hostess of the well attended event .

Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Soliu Adetunji Akanmu, among other royal fathers were sighted  on seat.

Other dignitaries in attendance were wives of State Governors across the country: Mrs. Sherifat Aregbesola, of the State of Osun ; Bolanle Ambode, of Lagos; Clara Oshiomhole, Edo; Edith Okowa, of Delta State ; Nkechi Okorocha, Imo; and Mrs. Mero Al-makura, of Nassarawa State.

Also in attendance are   Mrs. Kemi Alao-Akala, the wife of the former Governor of Oyo State; Senators Oluremi Tinubu, Monsurat Sunmonu, wife of the Minister of Solid Minerals; Mrs. Bisi Fayemi, and various women leaders and their members across the country.
President’s wife in her speech said that the situation in the country in terms of the poor health conditions of women and children in the country spurred her interest in embarking on projects towards improving their health status.

According to her – She had organized outreach screening programs in all the six geo-political zones across the states under her Future Assured Initiative.

She said that the exercise was intended to raise awareness on the importance of regular medical checkups, which she said, would contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) .

Mrs. Buhari, said that she was in the state to provide medical services in form of various health examination and screening.

“this initiative is aimed at complementing government’s efforts in providing healthcare services to citizens” she said.

She later urged people to be proactive about their health. She called for the usage of the health facilities in the State.

The President wife added that regular medical checkups is good for Ill health prevention.
