The Ooni of Ife in South West Nigeria, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II is in United State on a three week visit, the highly respected monarch accompanied by his wife Olori Wuraola Ogunwusi and other notable traditional rulers arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport New York on Thursday.
The foremost traditional ruler will be receiving “Peace Ambassador” Award which will be conferred on him by the White House faith based Initiative.
Oba (Dr.) Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, will visit selected cities within the United States during the three week visit which ends on June 30, 2016.
His tour is an initiative designed to advance relationships between the citizens of Yoruba land and the USA. The mission is to attract foreign investors for economic development in Yoruba land, Nigeria.
Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi will be in Baltimore, Maryland, African Village, Sheldon, South Carolina, Mobile Alabama, Atlanta, Georgia, Arkansas and Chicago, Illinois and Houston Texas.
His Imperial Majesty expressed his desire to visit the Oyotunji village, a Yoruba settlement in South Carolina due to the close proximity, and it is being suggested he visits the historic Penn Center on St. Helena Island, South Carolina, as well.
According to the media aide to the Ooni, Moses Olafare, the monarch will on Sunday June, 12, 2016 grace the 2016 edition of the annual Odunde Festival, in Philadelphia.
Ooni is also expected at a Symposium at Howard University, Washington DC on June 15, Oduduwa Economic Development/Transformation Leadership Summit at Gaylord Hotels, Maryland on June 16. He will also visit the America’s biggest Chocolate company HERSEY Chocolate factory for bilateral talks in line with his desire to attract investors to Ile Ife in Nigeria.
“He will be a guest at the United Nations Population Fund Building in New York. on Friday June 24. He will also visit the African burial ground Manhattan New York, where African slaves were buried alive in early 18th century, he will be presented with the key to the historical city of Newark. He will also be hosted at the Colombia University town hall meeting at Lerner Hall, Broadway New York Olafare revealed,
Prominent traditional rulers who accompanied Ooni on the trip include Orangun of Ila; Oba Wahab Adedotun(Bibiire 1), Timi of Ede; Oba Munirudeen Adesola Laminisa 1, Ajero of Ijero; Oba Adewole Joseph, Olubaka of Oka-Akoko; Oba Yusuf Adeleye and 76 more notable kings and high chiefs.
The Ooni will wrap up his historic visit with a visit to Texas on June 25, -27,2016.
