Moved by the plight of the less privileged, Hon Mike Okaka along with his beautiful wife, Princess Kennedy Okaka decided to do something. Together they have been making positive contributions to the development of our community with their philanthropic initiatives in Nigeria and here in the United State of America; such as the cleanup Onitsha project, were they have created jobs for youth.
Hon. Mike Okaka, a successful business man and politician, worked with organizations in Nigeria and United State before incorporating a staffing agency which employed roughly 140 people. Although it was his passion for service that made him join politics. He became the first chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in New England, USA. He was later appointed by Former Governor of Anambra Obi as his Special Adviser on Diaspora Affairs. Being the first person to occupy this post, Okaka used this platform to mobilize a broad based Anambra State indigenes with their kinsmen at home to partner with the government with a view to developing the state.
Princess Kennedy Okaka (nee Okpala) is the President and C.E.O. of Asampee Care Inc. and Citizens Health Care Services Inc. Both companies were founded in Michigan in 2005, specializing in provision of residential and home health care services for adults with developmental disabilities. She is also the founder of the VinMabel Women Comprehensive Health Foundation formed and dedicated in memory of her mother, Ezenwanyi Mabel Nonye “Nee Nnabude”. VinMabel Foundation have carried out many projects in different parts of Anambra state, including refurbishing maternity wards and provision of hospital materials, just to mention a few.
Princess Okaka holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from University of Nigeria. After graduation she worked with Central Bank before relocating to the United States in 2003. Her first job in the states was a teacher but her passion for taking care of others made her go into health care.
When asked what are their secrets of success and advice for the youth.
Hon. Mike Okaka says, “Fear God, put others first and aspire to make difference wherever you find yourself, keep your hearts clean and be focused on whatever you decide to do.”
Princess Kennedy Okaka says, “Whatever we decide to do, we take it to God and He makes the provision. Pay your tithe, focus on God and not men because men can let you do but God won’t.”
