Nigerian Professor Elected President Of District Faculty Union in WCCCD in Michigan, USA.

Detroit, Michigan. 05/27/17:

On May 12, 2017, Christian Nwamba, Ph.D (Ezeudo I of Umuhu Omuma), a Nigerian born, naturalized United States of America Citizen was elected President of Wayne County Community College District’s Faculty Union, AFT local 2000 by his peers. Dr. Nwamba garnered 52% of the votes to defeat two other candidates for the position.

AFT local 2000, an affiliate of Michigan Federation of Teachers and American Federation of Teachers, represents over 800 full-time and part-time professors, counselors and coaches of Wayne County Community College District. The college has a student population of over 7000 and six campuses spread throughout the County of Wayne, Michigan. WCCCD is also one of the largest multi-campus, urban-sub urban community colleges in the United States.

Dr. Nwamba is an alumnus of Wayne State University, Detroit where he received his doctorate degree in biological sciences in 1992. At Wayne County Community College District, where he teaches biology and microbiology and he has been honored with the institution is annual “Exceptional Faculty Award” in 2013 and 2015.

The Nigerian and African community in Michigan congratulates and supports the American Federation of Teachers, Wayne County Community College, Local #2000 for voting overwhelmingly to elect our own Dr. Christian Nwamba as the next President of the Union.

We are proud to Congratulate Dr. Christian Nwamba for his vision that won the hearts of all that recently elected him President of Wayne County Community College, AFT local 2000.  The faculty union of Wayne County Community college District has made a wise choice in choosing Dr. Nwamba over all others that ran for the same office. Dr. Nwamba has been a strong union leader having served AFT local 2000 as its 1st Vice President and grievance chairperson for the past 6 years.

In his larger community, he had previously served as the National president of Omuma Progressive Association, USA; Vice President of Imo State Congress of America; President of Old Orlu Ezinwanne Association of Michigan and currently serving the Community of Imo State Organizations in Michigan (CISOM) and Imo State Congress of America (ISCA) as Board of trustees member.

Congratulations to Dr. Nwamba (Eze Udo 1 of Umuhu Omuma) and all those elected to serve with him.
