When you are passionate about something, you are all in all the time. You are so into making that thing work that you forget that you are only human. Sometimes you have to take a step back from the work.
There are several reasons why this needs to be a regular part of the routine.
1. To See the Big Picture.
When your head is down working nonstop you sometimes lose sight of the reason why you are doing what you are doing. Taking the time to look at the big picture allows you to remember what you are working towards.
2. To Prevent Burn out.
We all experience burn out in one form or the other. The thing that used to make you get out the bed in the morning is not doing it for you anymore. Allowing for time to get away, will give you the opportunity to reenergize yourself.
3. To Generate New ideas.
For me this is the most important reason to take a step back. If you are always grinding at the one thing you are doing, there is no time or energy to come up with new ideas.
That old saying that you can’t pour from an empty cup is true. If you don’t take the time to refill yourself, then the work you do will become stale and lifeless. We want to be remembered for leaving a mark on the world, don’t let tunnel vision stop that from becoming true.
