The newly elected South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa identified his administration’s areas of focus while delivering his first State of the Nation address on Friday. “It is a new dawn, let us put all the negativity that has dogged our country behind us” He says.
In his speech to the Cape Town-based parliament, Ramaphosa urged members to “put all the negativity that has dogged our country behind us”. He added that building a society defined by decency and integrity that does not tolerate mismanagement of public resources or stealing of public fund will be his priority. He also identified the reduction in youth unemployment, Poverty alleviation, the reduction of inequality and the restoration of South Africa’s economy as key areas that need urgent attention in addition to creation of new industrial hubs and increase in infrastructure investments.
Members of the South Africa’s parliament from the ruling African National Congress (ANC) elected the party’s leader as new president last Thursday following the resignation of Jacob Zuma after multiple allegations of racketeering, corruption and mismanagement of state resources.
