Senate Committee Laments on Bad state of Toilet in Nigeria’s Embassy in Russia

The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs on Wednesday lamented the poor state of the nation’s embassies all over the world and accuse the Federal Government of neglecting them.

Vice Chairman of the committee, Senator Shehu Sani, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues when officials of the ministry of foreign affairs defended their 2019 budget proposal, disclosed that the country’s embassies were in deplorable conditions.

He specifically said that the nation’s embassy in Russia lacks a functional toilet.

He said findings by the panel indicated that water supply to the country’s embassy located in Moscow, has been cut off due to non payment of accumulated bills.

He said the development has forced the staff of the embassy to be fetching waters from embassies of other countries to flush the toilet whenever they urinate or defecate.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Mustapha Sulaiman, who led other officials to the budget defence session, said N4bn was approved for his ministry in the 2019 budget.

He explained that the ministry’s 2019 budget proposal was a far cry compared to the N11bn approved for it in the 2018 national budget.

He said the development forced the ministry to allocate funds for only 30 out of the 110 embassies and missions abroad.
