Kenya’s Ex-President, Arap Moi Loses His First Son

Jonathan Moi, the eldest son of former Kenyan President Arap Moi, is dead.

Jonathan died on Friday, Standard media says. His cause of death has not been ascertained.

“Moi’s eldest son will be remembered for his daring exploits in the racing tracks, in muddy and dusty tracks,” the medium states.

The Moi family has since released a statement annoucing the former First Son’s passage, titled, Statement on Death of Jonathan Toroitich.

It reads, “We the family of H.E Mzee Moi confirm the sad news on the passing on of Jonathan Toroitich.

“Jonathan will be remembered for his daring exploits in the racing tracks, in muddy and dusty tracks, during this time of Easter.

“He was an amiable, social and down-to-earth and industrious human being.

“We are distraught as a family and we ask for your prayers and seek your understanding and indulgence to allow us to mourn privately.

“We will continue to inform Kenyans on need basis and further arrangements.”

Arap Moi, 94, was president of Kenya from 1978 to 2002. Prior to becoming president, he served as Vice President of Kenya from 1967 to 1978.

Moi has eight children, comprising five sons and three daughters, namely, Jonathan Toroitich (late), Gideon, Philip (a retired army officer) and his twin Doris Elizabeth Chepkorir, Jennifer, June, Raymond (a member of parliament) and John Mark.

Their mother, Lena Moi, was married to Arap Moi between 1950 and 1974; and died in 2004
